Janet's is the product of about twenty collective years in the industry and the fortuitous alignment of Janey and Will's separate paths to Richmond.

While Will was running Petit MarieBette in Charlottesville, Janey was growing her own business, Janey's Bread, in Louisa.
The dream of a brick & mortar in Richmond was shared and the chance to make it a reality was in sight for 2025.

Okay, so what is Janet's all about? Frankly, it's about celebrating life's simple indulgences: food that brings us joy and a space for spending time with our friends, family, or neighbors. A no-frills hangout for your weekly traditions, be it a coffee after you drop your kids at school, and cheeky pastry (or a tall boy/spritz) when you're feeling like you deserve it.

Come by when we open and judge for yourself. We hope Janet's hits the spot.

Janey Gioiosa, a Virginia native, began her culinary journey at the local community college in Charlottesville. She started as a line cook and later transitioned to baking at MarieBette, where she met her future business partner, Will Darsie. Her career progressed through the wood-fired ovens of Little Hat bakery in Nelson County and to local farmers markets, where she launched her own venture, Janey's Bread.

With over 10 years of experience in the restaurant industry, Janey is thrilled to be fulfilling her dream of owning her first bakery/café. Janey loves working with local farmers for whole grains for her sourdough and pastry offerings. Janey is excited to become a part of the Richmond food scene.

Will Darsie, grew up in California wine country with a chef for a mother and a farmer for a father. Entertainment and food were at the forefront of his childhood, so naturally, guy likes to have a good time.

Over ten years ago, Will took a chance and moved to Charlottesville from California for new adventures, where he began working at MarieBette Café & Bakery as a barista. He worked his way up and earned the opportunity to be the co-owner and operator of Petite MarieBette in downtown Charlottesville.

While he still operates Petite MarieBette, Will was inspired to branch out and take a shot at a more personal project here in Richmond.
